We have prepared a booklet is to give our new members some information regarding the running of Mentone Life Saving Club’s Activities. Mentone Life Saving Club Information Sheet 2010-2011

Code of Conduct

The Club has a Code of Conduct that is regularly reviewed and updated by the Club Committee. The Code covers the policy and procedures that all members must abide by. The children are here to join in with activities and have fun. However, to ensure a quality learning environment is created Age Managers, Club Officials and other parents must be treated with respect and their views and contributions recognised and heard. Behaviour that does not meet the code will be appropriately managed through our grievance process. Please do not hesitate to ask your age manager for a copy of the detailed code if you wish to review it. All policies relating to these and all issues can be downloaded via the Life Saving Victoria website at www.lifesavingvictoria.com.au

Working with Children Checks

In Line with Life Saving Victoria's Member Protection Policy, the Mentone Life Saving Club is committed to protecting children from harm and promoting their wellbeing. This policy requires all volunteers working with children under 18 years of age to undergo a working with children check. This includes any member with an access key as our Club has a close working relationship with the Mentone Girls Grammar School who use our Clubrooms regularly during the week.

Equipment

All equipment is supplied by the club and care must be taken in its use. The orange Nippers boards are purposely designed for Junior Life Saving Training and are never to be dragged along the sand or stood on. All the boards need to be free from sand before returning to the racks. Any damage to equipment should be reported to your Age Manager or a patrol member so that it can be attended to.
Our Malibus (large boards) have been marked A - Advanced (see your coach), B - Beginners and general use, and C - Competition use only (seek permission from your coach)

Canteen

We are fortunate to have a kiosk on the beach with cold drinks, icy poles and snacks available for purchase. We also have coffee and other hot beverages available for purchase. All parents are encouraged to take the opportunity to stick around afterwards and meet some new people. The Sunday morning sessions are for the parents too!!

Housekeeping

Sand, Sand, Sand is the bane of all Life Saving Clubs when it appears in places other than the beach! We ask all members to ensure they have removed as much sand as possible before entering the Clubrooms and using the upstairs facilities. Each Sunday morning a trigger nozzle wash down hose will be available both at the front and around the side of the Clubhouse for rinse off and wash down of feet and craft. We ask you to use it. (water restrictions allowing). The hall is a "wet free" zone, please do not enter the hall unless you have dried off first. The showers upstairs are not to be used to wash down gear and keeping showers short helps the Club and the environment. As we do not employ cleaners it is expected that all members will make an effort to leave the change rooms and kitchen in a clean and tidy condition.

Social Activities

Regular events will be held throughout the season for families, adults and Juniors. The Newsletter, Notice boards will provide you with details. Like all Clubs we need members to participate to ensure these events are viable. This year every Friday night the Club will be open (including the bar) and all members and guests are welcome to come down and enjoy the sunset over beautiful Beaumaris Bay. We often have many kids having lots of fun playing games while the parents meet new friends. BBQ facilities are available or bring your fish & chips, pizza etc. down for a fuss free Friday night meal.

Committee

The club is run by a voluntary committee of Management that ensures the club meets the rules of Life Saving Victoria. This committee also oversees the Life Saving Patrol and senior members' activities. The Committee is always looking for volunteers so if you are interested please do not hesitate to come forward and help continue building this great club. Again welcome to the Mentone Life Saving Club and we welcome your participation in what is going to be a great summer season.

Email Address

Email is the club's most effective and most used form of communication. We ask that once you have completed your membership with the club, please take the time to go to our website and update your email address through the contact section of our website. Please ensure that your email address is correct on your Annual Membership renewal form and advise the Secretary of any changes you may make during the year - so you can stay in touch with us and we can keep you up to date with important dates and information.
