Winter Nippers Overview
Winter Nippers is an opportunity for Mentone LSC Nippers to continue to develop their surf skills, sand skills and increase their general fitness and endurance between May and October. Winter Nippers takes places on Saturday at 3pm and incorporates running (on the hard trials), sand training, board training and swimming. Sessions are held mainly at Mentone LSC but there are some sessions held at Anglesea SLSC, Torquay SLSC and Venus Bay SLSC. Every session is finished with Hot Milo and donuts ($3 per Nipper).
Winter Nippers also offers the opportunity for parents to participate with their Nipper in run, board and swim.

This year we will be including:
- Separate Groups based on skill and age levels (age groups are based on next season ages).
- U14
- U12-U13
- U10-U11
- Intro Group (for Nippers new to Paddling)
- 5 Sessions at Surf Beaches throughout the season (including a weekend at Torquay and Venus Bay).
- Additional Sunday training sessions at Bayside Aquatic. 3pm to 5pm starting 27 May.
Who is Winter Nippers For?
Winter Nippers is focussed at current season Nippers U08 - U14 and their parents.
What are the Benefits of Winter Nippers
Winter Nippers is good for a number of reasons including:
- Skill development on Ocean Beaches
- Great way for parents and Nippers to share Life Saving
- Wonderful opportunity to have Nippers mix across age groups
- Help improve fitness (especially for other Winter Sports)
- Chance for the new U14's to get familiar with mal's prior to next season
- Great chance to prepare for Mentone LSC Winter Training Camp at Maroochydore
- Preparation for Mentone Mini-Gold (3.5km run to Beaumaris LSC and 3.5km Paddle back to Mentone LSC held on Mentone LSC Open House day).
- Helping Nipper get acclimated to cooler temperatures (esp for U12's who can't wear wet suits during competitions next season).
- Opportunity for parents and Nippers to socialise.
What is a Typical Winter Nipper Session Like?
For a typical session we would
- start with a stretch and a run on the hard trails around Mentone LSC or do a sand training activity. (If it is raining we will do indoor acivities instead of a run.)
- go for a Board paddle
- short swim
What do you need for Winter Nippers?
For Winter Nippers you will need the following:

- 3/2 (minimum) or 4/3 Steamer Wetsuit
- Swim Cap
- Booties (optional - some Nippers like them others don't)
- Pink Rashie
- Goggles
- Board Wax (for Nippers on Fibreglass boards - next season U11+)
- $3 for Milo and Donut
